The transport cabinet announced on Monday the selection of two transport solutions to tackle the transport problem, the first of which is a transporter cast.
Transport Minister Naveen Jain said the transporter cast is an advanced electric vehicle that can carry up to 10 people at speeds up to 70km/h.
It is powered by two petrol or diesel engines and can travel up to 1.5 kilometres on a single charge.
It will be installed on all major city roads from Delhi to Mumbai in the next three months.
Jain said this transport system will provide greater efficiency, lower fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
The transport minister also announced a new public transport service to reduce the cost of transport.
He said the service will be provided by a network of public transport buses that will run at speeds of up to 20km/hr.
These buses will be equipped with smart sensors, and will also be equipped to automatically turn off the engine when a person is in the driver seat.
He added that the transporter will be available to all private vehicles for a fixed fee.
Transportation Minister Jain also said the government has decided to make it easier for people to purchase transport tickets, as it will allow them to book online and pay for the journey through a central portal.
The transporter cast will be made available in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Ahmedabad by March 2018.
The government also announced an online portal where anyone can book transport tickets online through an electronic booking app and pay by credit card.
